In a significant step toward enhancing women’s participation in military technology roles, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have announced plans to establish their first all-female drone interception team.

The initiative was unveiled by the 427th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Systems, known as RAROG. The newly forming unit will be responsible for detecting and neutralising enemy drones in real time. Recruitment and training of female candidates for the team is currently underway.

As of January, approximately 70,000 women were serving in the Ukrainian army – a 20 percent increase from 2022. Among those advocating for greater female involvement in technical military positions is Alina Andreieva, a drone operator in the Khartiia reconnaissance unit. “Motivated women are better at any job than unmotivated men,” she remarked, highlighting the importance of enthusiasm and purpose in these roles.

This development underscores the growing recognition of women’s contributions in frontline and tech-based military operations, a step forward for meaningful gender inclusion in the security sector.
