On September 4, 2025, the United Nations Department of Peace Operations (DPO), through its Office of Military Affairs (OMA), officially launched a new initiative aimed at strengthening gender integration in military peacekeeping: The Military Alliance for the Implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda. The virtual event gathered over 100 participants from across UN peacekeeping missions and introduced the Alliance’s leadership structure and strategic priorities.

The Alliance was created to address coordination gaps between field-based military gender experts and UN Headquarters. It supports the implementation of several key UN frameworks, including the Uniformed Gender Parity Strategy, the Gender Responsive Peacekeeping Operations Policy, and the OMA Gender Strategy 2025–2030. The initiative is designed to foster collaboration, build capacity, and promote the integration of gender perspectives across military peacekeeping operations.

The launch highlighted the growing momentum within the military domain to translate gender policy into practice. By connecting professionals who understand the operational realities of peacekeeping, the Alliance aims to strengthen learning, innovation, and leadership in gender-responsive approaches. It represents a strategic step toward building a more inclusive and effective peacekeeping architecture.
