In December, the Elsie Initiative Fund (EIF) announced funding for a new project with the Côte d’Ivoire Armed Forces, in collaboration with UN Women Côte d’Ivoire. This project involves conducting a comprehensive barrier assessment of the Armed Forces, using the Measuring Opportunities for Women in Peace Operations (MOWIP) methodology developed by DCAF – the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance. The assessment aims to identify key obstacles faced by uniformed women peacekeepers and offer actionable, data-driven recommendations to overcome these barriers. Doing so will support Côte d’Ivoire in developing a strategic roadmap to enhance the equal and meaningful participation of uniformed women in UN Peacekeeping Operations. This initiative aligns with Côte d’Ivoire’s commitment to UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS), as well as its target of increasing the representation of uniformed women peacekeepers to 20% by 2028.
