The Metropolitan Police has launched several initiatives aimed at improving the safety of women and girls in London, with a focus on fostering open dialogue and ensuring that women's concerns are integrated into public safety strategies. These initiatives are part of the broader effort to combat Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) by enhancing police accountability and responsiveness.

  1. Walk, Talk, and Do: This initiative organizes events across London where women can walk with police officers and discuss their safety concerns in specific areas. The goal is to gather real-time insights into locations where women feel unsafe and to collaboratively develop solutions. The feedback from these walks informs police actions, targeting high-risk areas to improve public safety for women and girls. See more here
  2. VAWG Independent Advisory Group: This group provides independent oversight and advice to the Metropolitan Police on their strategies to address VAWG. Comprising community members and experts, the group ensures that the voices and experiences of women are central to the development and implementation of police strategies. See more here
  3. VAWG Scrutiny Panel: This multi-agency panel scrutinizes police investigations into crimes such as domestic abuse and stalking. By reviewing casework, the panel aims to ensure that these investigations are thorough and that victims receive the support they need, while also holding the police accountable for their handling of VAWG cases. These initiatives reflect the Metropolitan Police's commitment to improving the safety of women in public spaces and ensuring that women's voices are integral to shaping public safety strategies.
