Red Arrows get first woman leader

July 14, 2026
Wing Commander Sasha Nash has become the first woman to lead the Royal Air Force’s world-famous Red Arrows aerobatic team, marking a historic milestone in the squadron’s history. Taking over from Wing Commander Adam Collins, Nash will command around 150 RAF and civilian personnel at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire and oversee all aspects of the team's operations and displays. Describing the appointment as the “opportunity of a lifetime,” she said she hoped her achievement would inspire future generations of aviators from all backgrounds.
A former Tornado pilot with operational experience in Afghanistan, Nash’s passion for aviation began in childhood after attending air shows and watching aircraft displays. She pursued that ambition through school and university before joining the RAF, building a distinguished career that has also included work alongside the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. In addition to her military career, Nash has represented England in lacrosse at both junior and senior levels.
The appointment comes as the Red Arrows continue efforts to strengthen their culture following criticism in 2023, when an inquiry found that predatory behaviour towards women within the team had been widespread and normalized. Under the leadership of her predecessor, the RAF emphasized creating a more inclusive and respectful environment across the unit. Nash's appointment represents both a significant leadership achievement and an important step forward for representation within one of the United Kingdom’s most high-profile military teams.
