The Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP) has announced the passing of its Chief Executive Officer, Maria Victoria Cabrera Balleza, a pioneering leader in advancing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. Widely known as “Mavic,” she was instrumental in driving the localization of WPS within the United Nations system, ensuring that global policy frameworks meaningfully reflected the lived realities of women in conflict-affected communities.
