The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation recently hosted its 8th annual “Wonder Women of Metro” event, spotlighting the exceptional contributions of women in law enforcement. Held in front of a crowd of over 200 attendees, including Mayors Michelle Romero and Shelley Berkley, the event honored four standout individuals whose dedication and bravery exemplify the evolving role of women in policing.

Among the honorees were Officer Ann Hardman, Corrections Officer Angelina Cayuga, and Civilian Staff member Mackenzie Nogues, each recognized as rising stars within the department. A special award was also presented to Officer Alexis Turner in memory of the late Officer Cristal Simms, a veteran and Metro officer who passed away from cancer. Turner’s heroic actions—saving a woman with ten gunshot wounds—earned her the Cristal Simms Award and underscored the resilience and professionalism women bring to the force.

Executive Director Karen Marben emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to increasing female representation in law enforcement, noting that the event was originally created to encourage more women to pursue policing careers. Sergeant Stephanie Ward, a veteran of nearly two decades, highlighted the growing presence of women in the department and the unique perspectives they contribute to public safety.

This celebration not only honors individual achievements but also reinforces the broader mission of gender inclusion in policing. As women continue to break barriers and lead with distinction, events like “Wonder Women” serve as powerful reminders of their indispensable role in building safer, more equitable communities.
