Germany's Inspector wins Woman Police Officer of the Year award

Inspector Stephanie Königs of Germany has been named the 2025 United Nations Woman Police Officer of the Year in recognition of her outstanding service with the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan. As a Patrol Team Leader within the mission’s police component, she has played a critical role in protecting civilians and supporting vulnerable communities in a challenging and unstable security environment.
Known for her professionalism, resilience and effective leadership, Inspector Königs helped ensure peacekeepers maintained access to communities requiring protection and humanitarian assistance, even during periods of heightened tension. She also strengthened cooperation between UN Police and military peacekeepers, improving operational coordination and enhancing crisis response and civilian protection efforts in the field.
The award also recognizes Inspector Königs’ commitment to advancing gender equality in policing. Through her daily work, she has demonstrated how strong leadership, dedication and service can contribute to both more effective peacekeeping operations and greater opportunities for women in law enforcement.
