AMISOM Commends Female Peacekeepers in Somalia
December 14, 2016: The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) commended its female peacekeepers for their critical role in the restoration of peace and stability in Somalia after decades of war. The recognition was made during the female peacekeepers conference, held in Somali capital, Mogadishu, and attended by officers from all components of AMISOM including the military, police and civilian. As a result, women are able to fly combat aircraft, serve in artillery units, staff missile emplacements, serve as combat medics, and fill various other roles that involve potential combat exposure.

December 17, 2019: The Vice-Chancellor of the Swedish Defense Force, Fleet Admiral Ewa Skoog Haslum has been appointed new Marine Chief. She will be leaving her position as Vice-Principal at the Swedish Defense College on 1 February 2020.
