Female police members from the Ekurhuleni policing district came together to celebrate 50 years of women in the SAPS.

Ekurhuleni District hosted the event at Carnival City last Wednesday, which was attended by female officers and members. As a celebration of National Police Day, female police officers in Ekurhuleni were reaffirmed.

One of the key speakers was Ekurhuleni District commissioner Maj-Gen Anna Sithole, who spoke about the purpose of the day and the important role women play in the SAPS.

Deputy provincial commissioner Maj-Gen Patricia Ramapota stated the day is set aside to honour women in blue for their sacrifices in combating crime.

The various careers within the SAPS were also exhibited as an indication that women in policing are represented across the different environments of the organisation.

The event was commemorated under the theme Celebrating the Roles of Women in Policing.
